In two days learn about the simple beauty of making mosaics and produce one for your garden and one for your kitchen with professional mosaic artist Joanna Dewfall who has over 30 years experience of commissions and teaching the art form.

Day One

In this friendly and relaxed workshop, Joanna will demonstrate and explain the various mosaic materials and techniques of cutting and laying tesserae in the classical mosaic style. You will learn how to use two different types of tile cutters in a safe and productive way. Joanna provides all tools and materials: tile cutters, safety glasses, adhesives, paper, tracing paper, concrete garden paver 30cmsq, coaster boards 13cm sq, glass and porcelain mosaic tiles, grout to take home with instructions.

You will start your 30cm garden mosaic in reverse on paper using washable PVA. When complete, either on Day One or Day Two, Joanna will help you to fix the mosaic with cement adhesive on to a garden paver. The result will need grouting at home and will then be entirely weatherproof for the garden.

Day Two

Once you have completed and fixed your garden mosaic you will have the opportunity to make a coaster mosaic for the kitchen or else take the materials away to complete at home.

You may bring a simple design for the garden mosaic which Joanna will help you adapt for mosaic, or use one of Joanna’s many tried and tested template designs. Grouting will be demonstrated but you will need to complete this at home – grout and full instructions included.

You will be able to load your garden mosaic paver into a car at the rear of the museum when the workshop is over, and assistance will be given.
