Wimborne’s own The Cricks has plenty to celebrate after being named one of the final six pubs in the country in the prestigious Best Pub to Watch Sport 2026 category at the Great British Pub Awards.
The team travelled to Leeds for the national awards ceremony accompanied by two competition winners, high spirits and hopes of bringing home the coveted title. While landlord Carl Crick was unfortunately unable to attend the ceremony due to illness, team members Aaron, Michael and Billy proudly represented the pub on the night.
Although the award itself didn’t make the journey back to Wimborne, the team says reaching the national final is an achievement they are immensely proud of.
“This recognition belongs as much to our customers as it does to us,” said the team. “Every person who joins us to watch a match, play darts, enjoy a drink, work behind the bar, share our posts, recommend us to friends or simply call The Cricks their local has contributed to what this pub has become.”
The Cricks has built a reputation as a welcoming community hub and a go-to destination for sports fans, making the shortlist alongside some of the very best venues in the country.
To mark the occasion, the team has released a video diary documenting their trip to Leeds and the Great British Pub Awards, offering supporters a behind-the-scenes look at the experience. Special thanks have been given to Aaron for capturing and editing the memorable journey. You can see it here: https://fb.watch/v/6pg-p53jE/
Being recognised as one of the UK’s top six sports pubs is a significant milestone for the Cricketers Arms, but the team insists there is much more to come.
“Final six in the country isn’t bad for a little pub in Wimborne. And we’re nowhere near finished yet.”
