Wimborne Walks the World Team 2026

Can a community walk 24,901 miles to change a life?

From Wimborne to the virtual streets of Tokyo and New York we aim to clock collectively 24,901 miles on our boots and paws in support of sight loss charity Guide Dogs. Every mile recorded via Strava brings us closer to funding the next generation of guide dogs. Whether you are walking 1 mile or 100 miles, simply donating to support a walker you are helping us guide the way for someone with sight loss.

When you donate to “Walk the World” you aren’t just funding a walk – you are helping to change someone’s world. A guide dog gives their vision-impaired owner the confidence and independence to get out and about and explore their own world safely.

Join the journey, connect your Strava app to our Just Giving page and every dog walk, walk to the shops, lunchtime stroll, school run, hike, round of golf, cycle or weekend wander will automatically add miles to our global map and help raise funds for Guide Dogs UK.

Local businesses, schools, community groups are being approached to sign up to the team to join the journey including Present Company in Wimborne who are taking on the further challenge of trying to meet a Team fundraising total of £2,500 and will then be able to name a guide dog puppy. Wimborne Town Mayor and the Town Council will be cheering on Gary Mason, Community Events and Liaison Officer who is representing the Town Council and supporting his fundraising to also attempt the extra “Name a Puppy” challenge. Gary will also be walking from Wimborne to Poole in October with supporters including Guide Dog puppies and working guide dogs to raise extra funds along the way. Are you or your business, community group or family and friends group, someone looking for a summer school holiday challenge ready to join our virtual tour of the World and make a life changing difference to someone’s world with sight loss?

Angela Hudson Manager of Present Company Wimborne, said “We are thrilled to be supporting such an amazing and worthwhile charity. Our team of staff in both of our shops, The Card Gallery and Present Company will be walking as much as we can  to raise much needed funds for Guide Dogs. Our team will be called “Paws Are Made for Walking” so be sure to donate so we can reach our £2500 target . We would be so proud to be able to name a Guide Dog Puppy.

Gemma Spencer, a Community Fundraising Manager at Guide Dogs, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to members of the Wimborne Community for choosing to ‘Walk the World’ in support of Guide Dogs.  As a charity, we rely almost entirely on public donations to keep our vital services for people with sight loss running. Best of luck to everyone taking part and thank you!”

Wimborne Minster Town Mayor, Cllr Jeff Hart, said:
“Wimborne has always been a town that comes together to support worthwhile causes, and this is a fantastic opportunity for the community to get involved in something that can make a real difference. Walking is something so many of us do every day, so turning those everyday miles into a collective challenge for Guide Dogs is a brilliant idea. I hope people across Wimborne will get behind Gary, join the challenge and help us reach our target – and perhaps even give a guide dog puppy a Wimborne connection by helping to name one.”
