Why Christmas in Wimborne is the Place to be

There’s something undeniably magical about Christmas in Wimborne. As the festive season unfolds, the charming town transforms into a winter wonderland, where tradition meets community spirit in the most heartwarming way.

From the twinkling tree in the town square to the lovingly dressed shopfronts, every corner can feel like a Christmas card come to life.

Wimborne’s array of independent shops and high street names make easy work of that Christmas shopping list. Brimming with unique gifts and the kind of personal service that turns shopping into a real pleasure, you’re sure to find something for all the family.

When it’s time to refuel, Wimborne’s many restaurants and cafés serve up seasonal delights, from mulled wine and mince pies to full festive feasts.

Add to that a calendar full of events. Saturday 29th November sees Christmas Lights Switch-On Day and Wimborne Christmas Market, supported by Wimborne BID. The Christmas Market takes place in the High Street Car Park from 11am brimming with seasonal treats to eat and drink and  gifts galore.

There will also be a host of entertainment with live music and performances in Wimborne Square starting with the rousing sounds of the Quarterjacks of Wimborne marching band at 1pm.

The grand lights switch on will be at 5pm followed by the chance to warm up your vocal chords and sing some carols. Wimborne’s famous militia will officially welcome the festive season in with a spectacular gunfire salute on the Minster Green to round off the day.

The free festive entertainment continues into December with Wimborne’s much-loved Save the Children parade on Saturday 13th December. Featuring fantastic floats and fancy dress, come and cheer on your favourite float and help raise money for a worthy cause. There’s also a chance to meet Father Christmas or why not have a go at the Great Christmas Pudding Stir in Wimborne’s Museum of East Dorset for some truly traditional festive fun.

Carols in the Cornmarket returns this year on Friday 19th December for its nineteenth year! This magical, free event invites people to come and sing carols together in the historic setting of the town’s ancient Cornmarket, situated just off the High Street. Don’t worry about remembering the words – song sheets are provided!

Free parking in some of the car parks is available on Friday 28th November, Saturday 29th November and Saturday 6fh December. Car parks excluded are the High Street, Waitrose and Co-Op.
